This year, MSU VSA E-board thought up of a fresh idea for our general body meetings (GBM) If you haven’t seen Amazing Race on television yet, it is basically a show that you compete in different obstacle courses and tasks with one other person and try to be the first to win at the end. The winner gets money prize. Our version of Amazing Race was modified because we added some Vietnamese culture and spices to it. This event was a very unique one because it has some “pit stops” of events tthat are specifically designed to express the vietnamese culture. Some events included rice bag racing, vietnamese word color matching, rice eating contest, vietnamese style dancing, and the human knot. Winners received points for our VSA prizes at the end of the semester. Not only was this event successful, but we made it on the State News! Check it out below:

The Vietnamese Student Association at Michigan State University has unveiled its new and official logo.

The logo created, is a part of the organization’s plan to restructure itself with a brand new identity that hopes to connect its members and the community. The logo is the work of its very own VSA alumni and MSU advertising student, Lam Matthew Nguyen.

When thinking of ideas of how the organization wanted the logo to look, “I wanted something that will be able represent who we are as an organization, what we plan to do, and our culture as a whole,” says President John Dinh. The Vietnamese Student Association aims to bring together individuals, regardless of race, who have an interest in learning more about the Vietnamese culture. Its organization goals also aim to empower the next generation of Vietnamese leaders with a passion for service, propensity for leadership, and self-awareness with the intent of advocating for progress.

The logo has three graphical elements that create a bold, but yet simplistic and clean look. The three stripes embarked on the “V” represents its acknowledgement of freedom. The use of the Vietnam map identifies the organization’s country and the use of the lotus is the country’s flower and reflects the organization’s vision of unifying its members to create a strong family.

The banquet is a time for all the student organizations under APASO to come together and celebrate the ending of the school year. Along with nice dinner and entertainment, APASO presented awards to the organizations under many different categories.

The Vietnamese Student Association, is pleased and honored to accept the “Organization of the Year” award once again for the third time consecutively. Winning this award would not be possible without the commitment, passion, and dedication from its Executive Board. Not only do we give thanks to the hard work the Executive Board had put into for the school year, we would also like to thank everyone who has help shaped and create VSA to what it is today.

Our last general body meeting of the school year ended with Saigon Cafe. Saigon Cafe with VSA presented our members with traditional drinks of the Vietnamese culture. These drinks include; ca phe sua da (iced coffee), sua dau lanh (soy bean milk), nuoc mat (artichoke tea), and che thai (jelly fruit drink), which were served by our beautiful models wearing ao dai (Vietnamese cultural outfits). Along with the delicious drinks, we also served fried shrimp chips.
